There\’s something quietly poetic about a doorway a threshold between public and private, between the street and someone\’s entire life. This photo series is built around a small obsession of mine: photographing the windows and doorways of Europe, one city at a time. You\’ll find the flower-draped balconies of Parisian apartment buildings, the ornate wrought-iron gates of Barcelona\’s Gothic Quarter, the pastel shutters of a fishing village in Cinque Terre, half-open just enough to hint at the life happening behind them. I share the architectural history behind some of my favorite finds, the neighborhoods where these details are easiest to spot, and the patience required to photograph them without disturbing the people who actually live behind those doors. There\’s a particular deep-green door in Edinburgh with a brass lion knocker that started this whole obsession years ago, and I trace the project from that single photograph to the hundreds I\’ve collected since. This series isn\’t about grand landmarks or dramatic landscapes it\’s about the small, overlooked details that give a city its character, the ones you\’d walk straight past if you weren\’t looking closely. Slow down, look up, and you\’ll start noticing them everywhere too.
